Mountain Hiking

April 3, 2013

There are walks, hikes, and challenges.
Today was a small challenge.

View from the ridge

This originated when Billy discussed local hikes with Chad who is a long time resident of Indian Creek Campground.  Billy learned of a path from the campground towards the source of a small waterfall so off we went.

Up the stream!
The path started well enough but it soon became obvious this was the road less traveled and I wondered if anyone trod this path in the last 5 years due to the debris.  Undaunted we each found a sturdy walking stick and continued up the "path".

And then up the stream bed to the source of the stream which were drops oozing from the mountain side.  From small droplets mighty oceans form... Isn't that a quote?

Each trickle of water adds to the stream.

But this was not the top of the mountain so we scrambled up the ridge for a better look.  And scramble we did as we slid over leaves and found purchase on rocks and support from tree trunks.

It became clear that a hiker's best friend is a sturdy climbing stick.  A climbing stick becomes support, a balance rod, an exploring tool when checking for solid ground, and more.

View from the "top"

Finally, the top of the ridge... well as far as we were going today.  It was a good climb up and an easier descent.

Just a little afternoon stroll

Happy I could make the trip.
